Brief Biography

Daniel Flores joined Elon University as a lecturer in Fall 2021. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics from Michigan State University. His M.A. in Mathematics is from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. More recently, he earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. The title of his thesis was, "Curve Pushing Maps and Homological Representations of Mapping Class Groups." Though he has two shared publications outside of this subject, his main interests are in low dimensional topology. Specifically, mapping class groups of surfaces of finite type. He also independently researches geometric group theory and topological quantum field theory.

His interest outside of mathematics include music, camping, and hiking.
