Susanne Shawyer

Susanne Shawyer is Associate Professor of Theatre in the Department of Performing Arts. She is a dramaturg, director, and theatre historian who researches the history of applied theatre. At Elon, she teaches Theatre History, Dramaturgy, Theatre for Social Change, Drama & Theatre Studies courses, and mentors undergraduate research in theatre. She is Affiliate Faculty—Dramaturgy Specialist with Theatrical Intimacy Education, a consulting and research organization dedicated to training students and theatre professionals in theatrical intimacy best practices. She is past Editor of the journal Theatre Topics. Education: PhD in Theatre with an emphasis in Performance as Public Practice, University of Texas at Austin.
