Janet Keefer

Dr. Janet Hill Keefer has been Elon Law’s Writing Specialist since 2012 after a career that included doing and teaching journalism. She holds a doctorate in Mass Communication Research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has taught news writing, broadcast news, media law, race and media, and public affairs journalism at the American University in Washington, DC; Penn State; and Drake University, where she also served as dean. She was Dean of the College of Communication Media Sciences at Zayed University, a public university in the United Arab Emirates. She began her journalism career as a newspaper reporter in Columbus, Ohio, and later worked as a reporter and producer for television stations in Ohio and Alabama. She joined the Cable News Network’s Washington Bureau in 1981, shortly after the network was founded. A native Tennessean, she now lives in Pittsboro, NC.
