Brief Biography
Patti Burns received her M.A. in translation from the Institute for Applied Linguistics at Kent State University in 2003, completed doctoral coursework at UNC-Chapel Hill and joined the Elon faculty in 2014. Her scholarly interests include translation, Franco-Algerian relations, immigration, food and film. It was in her own undergraduate study abroad experience in Paris, where she was immersed in language classes at the Sorbonne as well as in theatre and art courses, that she developed a passion for the theory and practice of language acquisition. She is fascinated by how students learn and in developing mini-learning communities in and outside the classroom. Professor Burns lives in Elon with her fellow film-geek husband and two very animated children.
