Brief Biography
Rose holds a Master's degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the American University of Rome in Rome, Italy, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from North Carolina Central University in Durham. When she was a young girl, she had the chance to travel to Europe with People to People International, a "personal diplomacy" youth ambassador program for high school students established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, which inspired her to pursue a Master's degree in Italy. The group tour included stops in France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. As a young girl raised in Detroit, Michigan, that experience opened her eyes to a world available to her outside her city, state, and country.
During her Master's program, she attended United Nations events, a Bologna peace-building forum, and a day trip to the renowned Italian Catholic NGO Sant'Egidio to discuss how international students can contribute to the organization's progress. She also had the honor of being employed as a summer intern at the World War II Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial in Nettuno, Italy, where she was able to pay tribute to the soldiers of the 34th American Division who served in the Anzio-Nettuno campaign and rest there.
Rose's passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in education abroad and international contexts, as well as mentorship and student development, has led her to join the GEC team.
