Brief Biography
Sophie Adamson received her Ph.D. in French literature from UNC-Chapel Hill and joined the Elon faculty in 2005. She is passionate about teaching & learning and the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award from Elon’s College of Arts & Sciences (2010) and the Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching (2017). Her teaching and research interests include French and Francophone writing and the intersections of popular culture, identity, human rights, and social criticism. Her current projects involve the cultural politics of humor in French. She examines stand up comedians and editorial cartoonists who use their positions to engage audiences in dialogues that challenge mainstream assumptions and help shape political consciousness.
