Circulation Services

Circulation Services are located on the Mezzanine level of the law school near the law library entrance. Go to the Circulation Desk to:

  • Borrow and return library material;
  • Ask for help locating library materials or reporting issues concerning library facilities;
  • Pay fines; and
  • Request reserve materials, including course reserves.

Loan Rules

Most materials in the library do not circulate. Circulating materials may be checked out by current Elon Law students, faculty, and staff.

Your Library Account

Your library account number is on the back of your Phoenix Card. Use this number to place holds, request renewals, and request delivery of Belk Library materials to the law library. You may also check for due dates and fines.

My Library Account

Electronic Services

For your convenience, many library services are available electronically through the online catalog.

Renewals

Renewals may be placed on all circulating material if no holds are pending. Materials may be renewed electronically at My Library Account. A limited number of materials may be renewed.

Holds

Holds may be placed on any circulating materials that are currently checked out to another patron. Hold requests may be made by selecting the request icon in the online catalog. Items labeled as “Reserve” may only be held once in a twenty-four hour period.

Belk Library Delivery

Belk Library delivery is available by (1) selecting the request icon and then (2) selecting the Law Library as the Pickup Location.

Reserve Collection

The Elon Law Library maintains a closed reserve collection behind the Circulation Desk. Reserve items are identified in the online catalog as course reserves. To determine if your instructor placed particular items on reserve for your class, search the online list of Course Reserves by faculty name or course number. Anyone wishing to view the reserve collection must be accompanied by a member of the library staff. Loan periods for reserve materials vary based on item type and faculty request.

Overdue Fines and Lost Material

Overdue fines are charged on a daily basis for regular circulating materials and an hourly basis for reserve materials.

Rates:

  • Reserve Materials: $.50 per hour
  • Non-reserve Materials: $.25 per day for first 10 days, then $.50 per day thereafter.
  • Recalled Materials: $.25 per hour or day depending on whether it is a reserve or non-reserve item.
  • Lost Interlibrary Loan Items: $250 minimum, or lending library’s bill plus $40, whichever is greater.

If a reserve item is lost or overdue for three or more days, the library reserves the right to bill the patron the replacement cost for the item, plus a $40.00 processing fee. If a non-reserve item is lost or overdue by 45 or more days, the library reserves the right to bill the patron for the cost of replacement plus a $40.00 processing fee.

All library charges must be paid in full by the end of each semester and before graduation. Unpaid fines may result in a patron’s account being frozen until their debt is settled.
