Three College Observatory co-founder visits Elon

Steve Danford shared observatory history and invitation to visit, volunteer, and research.

Steve Danford, co-founder of the Three College Observatory and emeritus professor of physics and astronomy at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, recently spoke at the weekly Astro/Physics Tea. This observatory, which is organized and funded by UNCG, North Carolina A&T State University and Guilford College, is located in Alamance County making Elon University the closest institution to the physical facility.

In addition to a history of the observatory and its instruments, Danford invited Elon students and faculty to visit the observatory and volunteer at the monthly public events. For more information, visit the observatory’s website. For Elon students interested in research opportunities at the observatory, please contact your adviser.

Hosted weekly by the Department of Physics, Astro/Physics Tea promises engaging discussions, thought-provoking ideas and a delightful spread of refreshments. Open to all students, faculty, and staff, this gathering is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow physics aficionados in a relaxed and informal setting. Meetings take place in the third-floor lounge of Innovation Hall at 3:20 p.m. on Wednesdays.
