Elon University’s Lee Rainie, director of the Imagining the Digital Future Center, was featured in a recent Chronicle of Higher Education article examining how artificial intelligence is creating new challenges for college and university leaders.

The story, How Chaos Surrounding AI Can Sink a College Presidency,” highlights the firing of the University of Wisconsin System due to what the regents described as unclear policy around AI.

“This is what chaos looks like. It’s hard to be a leader in chaos,” said Rainie, who has studied the use and perceptions of AI on campuses. “There is no consensus at all about what are the right things to do.”

Rainie noted that faculty members are also eager for guidelines telling them what they can and cannot do.
