Brief Biography

Dr. Caroline Ketcham's research interests are in the area of movement neuroscience. Her work is aimed to understand and educate about the importance of neuromusculoskeletal control, organization, regulation, and coordination in the execution of movements foundational to development and functional participation for all. She has investigated motor control and rehabilitative strategies and interventions across of a variety of populations including: age (children, college-aged students, elderly); neurological disease or injury (Parkinson’s disease, stroke, concussion); neurodiverse populations (autism spectrum conditions; sensory processing conditions); and expertise (dancers, student-athletes). Dr. Ketcham is a committed teacher-mentor-scholar who has mentored over 87 undergraduate reseach students and advised hundreds of students pursuing careers and graduate studies in exercise science and health professions. She has authored over 65 research articles and book chapters, as well as the co-editor of two book: Concussion in Athletics: Assessment, Management and Emerging Issues; Cultivating Capstones. She currently serves as co-director for the Elon BrainCARE Research Institute (www.elon.edu/braincare) which has concussion advocacy and positive mental wellness as the primary goals. She serves as Chair of Exercise Science and previously served as Director of Health professions. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award (2023); the Ward Family Excellence in Mentoring Award (2017); the Elon College Service Award (2014); and the School of Education Excellence in Scholarship Award (2010).

Dr. Ketcham currently mentors students on research as part of Elon BrainCARE(concussions and mental health) and students interested in motor development and advocating for resources for special needs children and their families.
