Transition Overview
This page provides an overview of the Canvas transition, including key milestones, timing, and what to expect in the months ahead. Our goal is to support a thoughtful, gradual transition that allows time for exploration, preparation, and support.

The transition at a glance

The move to Canvas will take place in phases:
- Spring 2026 → Access and exploration
- Summer 2026 → Optional preparation and continued support
- Fall 2026 → Canvas becomes Elon’s learning management system
You can begin preparing at any point along this timeline.
Key milestones
Early April 2026
Canvas access begins
- Faculty and staff can log in and begin exploring Canvas
- Sandbox and course environments become available
- Training and support opportunities begin
Spring–Summer 2026
Course preparation and support
- Faculty may begin migrating and preparing courses
- Workshops, working sessions, and self-paced resources are available
- Support continues throughout the spring and summer
Fall 2026
Canvas launch
- Canvas becomes the official LMS for teaching
- Courses are taught in Canvas
- Students begin using Canvas in their courses
Late 2026–Mid 2027
Moodle transition and archival
- Moodle remains available during the transition period
- Faculty can continue exporting and saving course content
- Courses are archived as part of the transition process

- Training opportunities are underway
- Migration guidance is being finalized
You don’t need to take action right away. When you’re ready, you can begin exploring and preparing at your own pace.

- You can prepare your course at a time that works for you
- You’ll have access to support throughout the process
- You do not need to make changes immediately
