Purpose

Charged by the Mission Statement of Elon University to “provide a dynamic and challenging undergraduate curriculum grounded in the traditional liberal arts and sciences,” Elon College invites proposals for projects that deepen the values, the intellectual community, the research, teaching, and habits of thinking that are characteristic of the liberal arts and sciences.

Grant Description

Grants are available to Elon University faculty, staff, and students.  Projects that include collaboration between members of Elon College and the schools of business, communications, education, health sciences, and law are encouraged.  Projects may be departmental as well as interdisciplinary and interdepartmental.  They may be proposed by individuals or groups, and may entail significant one-time events or the establishment of longer-running initiatives.

Although all projects must further the values of the liberal arts and sciences, approaches will vary. Possibilities include

  1. Initiatives for enhancing the quality of programs or areas of study.
  2. Initiatives that support faculty research and development, and especially their dissemination through the mentoring of students and through interdisciplinary, interdepartmental, and inter-school workshops, study groups, and courses.
  3. Events that deepen understanding of historical and contemporary milestones.
  4. Academic outreach to the community.

The selection will be made by a committee of Phi Beta Kappa members in consultation with the Dean of Elon College.
