Elon New York

Academics
Since 2009, more than 450 students have taken part in a semester or summer academic program in New York City. Students take classes, intern at unique companies and organizations, network with alumni, and learn about the rich history and culture of NYC through faculty-led trips. Students have visited the Historical Society, American Indian Museum, Museum of the Moving Image, Stonewall Inn, the Tenement Museum, attended Broadway shows, and more.
Summer 2024 students were asked about their experience in NYC:
“Experiencing New York City through the Elon in NYC program has been incredible. The opportunity to intern at IHPR (a fashion PR agency), network with alumni, and immerse myself in the city’s rich history and culture has been invaluable. My favorite part has been fostering such amazing friendships in an exciting and fast-paced atmosphere and connecting with faculty on a more personal level. This experience has not only enhanced my academic knowledge, but it has also provided me with practical skills for my post-grad career and unforgettable memories.”
-Alexa ’25, Strategic Communications major
“Participating in the Elon in NYC program while interning on a programmatic team at IPG has been an incredible experience. I’ve been able to work, learn, network, and explore New York City in ways that would otherwise have been impossible. With organized excursions, networking events with Elon alumni, and the convenient location of the dorms we’re placed in, this summer has allowed me to meet new people and have once in a lifetime experiences while creating lifelong memories.”
-Sam Dixon ’25, Economic Consulting major
“My time in NYC with Elon has exceeded my expectations in every way. I’ve been spending my summer at Insight Enterprises – working on the implementation of AI in Healthcare as an Intern Software Engineer on the Artificial Intelligence team. This program has allowed me to independently grow in my professional life, while pushing me to create new connections and try new experiences like I never would have imagined. Having the independence to live and intern in New York surrounded by Elon classmates and staff has proven to be the perfect way to be introduced to life in NYC, and I would do this whole program over again in a heartbeat!”
-Kylie Leyda ’25, Computer Science and Public Health major
Experiential Education
All students who enroll in an Elon in New York City program are required to complete an internship. A major goal of Elon in NYC is developing deep and meaningful connections with industry professionals. An important way of developing those connections is through internships based in NYC. Students learn what it means to be a professional, how to create and build a professional network, and apply what they have been learning in the classroom to a professional experience. Students are not placed in internships; they work with Assistant Director of Career Services for Study USA & International Students, Nathalie Perez, to apply and interview for internships.
A student’s registered internship and participation in Study USA NYC will appear on the Elon Experiences Transcript (EET). This transcript documents a student’s participation in the five program areas that make up the Elon Experiences: Global Engagement (Study Abroad/Study USA), Service, Leadership, Internships, Undergraduate Research Collectively, these programs reflect important values which add to the total college experience and prepare students as a lifelong learners and citizens. Official copies of student’s Elon Experience Transcript can be ordered along with official academic transcripts through the Registrar’s Office online.
