The Times News highlights Elon’s new digital content management major

Vic Costello, associate professor of cinema & television arts, spoke with The Times News about the new digital content management major starting in fall 2025.

The Times News in Burlington, North Carolina recently highlighted Elon University’s new digital content management (DCM) major, the first major in the School of Communications in over a decade.

Beginning in fall 2025, the new undergraduate program will help equip students with the creative, strategic and technical skills to lead content creation and strategy across digital platforms.

Vic Costello, associate professor of cinema & television arts and program director told The Times News that the new major will prepare “the next generation of students, those born between 2010 and 2025, Gen Alpha to work in that rapidly-changing media landscape.”

“Gen Alpha is going to be the first generation that was birthed into the era of smartphones and tablets, where they’re consuming all their media through streaming,” Costello told The Times News. “That’s their native means for consuming media. They don’t understand the old broadcast model. They don’t understand the old print model. It’s all digital, and we we didn’t have that represented in our program anywhere.”

Students interested in the digital content management major can enroll in the school’s core communications courses immediately, with full implementation of the major in place by fall 2025.
