The professor of communication design recently authored two peer-reviewed articles examining immersive learning and global service-learning collaboration.

While attending MediaFest25 in Washington, D.C., a group of Elon journalism students joined alumni for an evening of professional networking and mentorship.

The Oct. 31 program offered attendees hands-on demonstrations and discussions on how drones are reshaping industries from agriculture to public safety. New features this year included a lively drone soccer showcase by Asheboro City Schools and expanded sessions on AI applications, weather data, and flight authorization technology.

The annual journalism workshop, hosted by the School of Communications in partnership with the North Carolina Scholastic Media Association and The News & Observer, welcomed students and advisers for a day of sessions led by media professionals and educators.

As part of its 25th anniversary celebration during Homecoming Weekend, the School of Communications honored Wilson for her accomplishments as a showrunner and writer in Hollywood. The milestone event also reflected on the school’s transformation over 25 years – from its early beginnings to a nationally respected program known for producing industry-ready graduates.

Elon junior Ethan Wu worked alongside School of Communications faculty members Amanda Sturgill and Randy Piland in Baku, Azerbaijan, as part of a production team documenting one of the world’s most prestigious programming competitions.

The new course, offered by Associate Teaching Professor of Communication Design Randy Piland, blends hands-on projects and flight simulations with discussions about ethics, privacy and the broader impact of drone use.

Elon alumna Mandi Jaffe '24 has published her work on how trail map design can make nature more accessible.

Faculty from the School of Communications engaged with peers from around the world, contributing research and insights across multiple sessions. Discussions spanned topics such as artificial intelligence, press freedoms, personal branding, and well-being in the communications industry.

The school recognized the communication design major for her years of service and leadership with local youth and civic organizations.
