Structured literacy that builds confidence

Every school day at Roberts Academy, children rediscover confidence in reading and learning. Our teachers use the principles of Orton–Gillingham instruction — a structured, multisensory, and individualized method proven to help students with dyslexia become fluent, confident readers.

Students benefit from small groups, ongoing assessment, and personal attention that fosters growth in reading, writing, and self-esteem.

Our Program

Personalized instruction that empowers growth

  • Grades one through six, beginning with grades three and four in Fall 2026.
  • Low student–teacher ratio, maximum of twelve students per class.
  • Teachers trained in the principles of Orton-Gillingham instruction.
  • Daily diagnostic teaching that adapts lessons to each student’s progress.
  • Most students attend for two to three years before returning to their home schools reading at or above grade level, with ongoing collaboration between Roberts faculty and district teachers.
  • Hands-on learning that connects literacy with art, science, movement, and outdoor exploration.

Learning in Community

A partnership between students, teachers, and future educators

We work hand-in-hand with families to ensure progress continues at home through regular communication, workshops, and shared learning strategies. Future educators from Elon’s Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education will learn alongside expert Roberts Academy faculty, gaining practical experience that equips them to transform classrooms across North Carolina and beyond.

We collaborate with public and independent schools to identify students who can benefit from specialized instruction, support successful transitions, and build a community of understanding and advocacy for children with dyslexia.

Empowering Families and Changing Lives

Families play a vital role in the Roberts Academy experience. Through workshops, conferences, and regular communication, we help parents understand the Orton–Gillingham instruction approach so they can reinforce strategies at home.

Families often describe the Roberts Academies as life changing, not only for their children but for their entire family’s confidence and hope for the future.

For the first time, our child believes they are smart. Roberts Academy did not just teach our son to read. It helped him rediscover his confidence.
