Clar publishes article on carbon nanotubes
Assistant Professor of Chemistry Justin Clar has published a research article on the absorption of surfactant molecules to single-wall carbon nanotubes.
Assistant Professor of Chemistry Justin Clar and a collaborative team from the University of Florida have authored a research article titled "Strongly Bound Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Surrounding Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes" in the publication Langmuir. (DOI: 10.1021/acs.langmuir.7b00758)
In the article, the team describes the extent of surfactant molecule interaction with carbon nanotubes in aqueous solution. The team observed that the vast majority of these surfactant molecules interact strongly with the nanotube surface and are not exchanged with surfactants in solution.
The work is part of the team's continued work to better understand the surfactant structure that surrounds carbon nanotubes to maximize their potential for utilization in electronics and optical devices.
