Sankey Hall construction to impact parking

The start of construction of Sankey Hall, a new facility for the Love School of Business, is bringing about changes in available parking on Elon's campus.

Construction officially begins Wednesday on Sankey Hall, a three-story, 30,000-square-foot facility that will expand Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.

The start of the Sankey Hall project brings with it the closure of the north end of the McMichael parking lot as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30. That’s where the new business school building will sit, with plans for Sankey Hall to open by Aug. 1, 2018.

The loss of roughly 200 parking spaces follows the opening of a new parking lot on the east side of the McMichael Science Center. The new lot, which borders Elon Elementary School on its east side, added about 165 spaces when it opened toward the end of the spring semester. Though it fronts East Haggard Avenue, access to the lot is from the southern end of the McMichael parking lot near the greenhouse.

Construction has also begun on an extension of Phoenix Drive. The new road will run east from the roundabout by Koury Business Center along the north side of the Colonnades Neighborhood and will become the main access road to the Colonnades parking lot.

With its completion by the end of the summer, the new road will become part of the route of the Danieley Center Tram. During construction of the road, the Colonnades parking lot can continue to be accessed from the Danieley Center to the east.
