Leadership transition in Business, Finance and Technology

Message from President Connie Ledoux Book:

Members of the Elon community:

Bob Shea has been appointed vice president for business, finance and technology, effective June 1.
On June 1, Bob Shea will assume his new title of vice president for business, finance and technology, completing the leadership transition for that division of the university that has been planned since his arrival at Elon in March of 2017.

Bob will oversee all areas of the university that were formerly managed by Sr. Vice President Gerald Whittington, who has provided exemplary leadership since joining Elon in 1992. Gerald will assume the new title of senior vice president and special assistant to the president and associate professor. He will continue to provide leadership as a member of senior staff and teach classes in the master of arts in higher education program.

Over the past two years Bob has taken on increasing responsibilities in business, finance and technology. Careful planning for this transition allowed Bob and Gerald to effectively collaborate on the critical and complex areas throughout the division. I want to express my thanks and admiration to both of these strong leaders for their diligence and commitment throughout this process.

Gerald Whittington has been named senior vice president and special assistant to the president and associate professor.
Due to this thoughtfully executed transition we are positioned to continue Elon’s record of excellence (currently ranked #2 in the nation as a “best run college” by Princeton Review) in business and financial operations, internal audit, physical plant, technology, human resources, campus safety and police, auxiliary services, administrative services, and planning, design and construction management.

A campus-wide celebration to honor Gerald’s many contributions to the university is being planned for the spring of next year.

Sincerely,
Connie Ledoux Book
