Hillel College Guide lists Elon among top 'Schools Jews Choose'

The 2015 fall edition of Hillel College Guide lists Elon University among the most frequently attended schools by Jewish students based on the total number of enrolled undergraduates.

Elon University remains one of the nation’s top colleges for Jewish students, according to the latest edition of the Hillel College Guide published by Hillel International.  

With a Jewish population of 600 undergraduate students, Elon ranked #40 on the list of the “Top 60 Private Schools Jews Choose” based on population in the second issue of the influential magazine that reports on issues of importance in higher education to Jewish students and their families. The university ranked #60 overall among all schools.

The total number of Jewish students equates to 10 percent of the university’s undergraduate student population. Jewish students comprise about 6 percent of Elon University’s graduate student population.

Elon Hillel serves as a Jewish resource on campus committed to empowering students to make Jewish connections, building dynamic communities and generating excitement about Jewish life on campus.

With regular programming, leadership from the student board, support from Acting Director Ginny Vellani and Associate Chaplain for Jewish Life Meir Goldstein, Shabbat programming, holiday services, four student engagement interns, a strong Jewish Studies program led by Rabbi Geoff Claussen, kosher-style food options, Hebrew courses, Birthright trips, the ZBT fraternity, and guidance from the Jewish Life Advisory Council, the university has already been recognized for its welcoming and dynamic program.

Elon was featured in 2014 as one of “seven stellar Hillels you haven’t heard of” and was the first school named among “up-and-coming stars” that might be “the perfect fit” for students seeking a vibrant Jewish life at college.

Elon Hillel is located in the Sklut Hillel Center is located at 401 E. College Avenue across from the university’s tennis courts.
