Gifts to the Ever Elon Campaign from alumni, friends and students have endowed the Black Alumni Scholarship, which will assist African-American students with demonstrated financial need and academic merit.

Members of Elon’s Black Alumni Network began raising money for the scholarship in 2007 to help make an Elon education possible for deserving students. To date, more than 220 alumni and other donors have contributed about $82,000 to the scholarship.

“This is going to be the best thing we can do to support the African-American students of today,” says Priscilla Awkard ’95, a member of the Black Alumni Network.

Awkard has helped lead the fundraising effort for the scholarship along with network members Darryl Smith ’86 and Kelli Palmer ’98, who is president of the Elon Alumni Board.
