Steele family establishes football scholarship

The Steele family, including Tommy ’61 and Barbara Steele ’61 and their son Tom Steele Jr. and his wife, Kimberly Steele ’87, has endowed the Steele Family Football Scholarship for Elon athletics.

Increasing scholarship support for athletics is one of the priorities of the $100 million Ever Elon Campaign, which seeks to build the endowment, increase annual and planned gifts, and build and preserve the campus.

The Steeles established this scholarship in honor of the family’s children and grandchildren. This scholarship will provide annual financial assistance to a deserving member of Elon’s football team, with preference going to a student-athlete from Alamance County. The scholarship will be awarded beginning with the 2011 football season.

The Steeles have been long-time supporters of Elon athletics, not only as loyal fans, but also by making an impact through annual gifts to the Phoenix Club.

“It is through commitments like those of the Steele family that Elon athletics and our football program continue to grow and thrive,” said Elon Director of Athletics Dave Blank. “It is encouraging to see their loyalty in supporting our programs through both annual contributions to the Phoenix Club and by establishing this important athletic scholarship. We are so grateful to the entire Steele family for their generosity and support of Elon athletics.”
