Futrell performs with Colorado Music Festival Orchestra & Chorus

Elon's director of choral activities is also working closely with the choral program at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music Stephen A. Futrell has just returned from performing with the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra and Chorus for a performance of Ernest Bloch’s Avodath Hakodesh (Sacred Service) at one of the remaining, historic Chatauqua sites in the U.S. in Boulder, CO. Futrell was invited by Artistic Director and Conductor Michael Christie for the two performances which attracted more than 1,500 concert attendees each night.

The invitation also came with an engagement to work with graduate conducting students at University of Colorado Boulder in private coaching sessions. In addition, Dr. Futrell has been retained to act as consultant as CU rebuilds the choral performance area for the 2013-14 academic year beginning with this on-sight visit and continuing throughout the year with assessments of choral performances and offerings in choral literature and conducting. His newly completed performance editions of Anton Arensky’s Opus 57, Three Pieces for Choir and Cello have been selected for a premier performance by the CU University Choir at the Colorado Music Educator’s Association January 2015 Conference.
