Across the College, undergraduates achieved great success in 2023-24 by receiving national scholarships and prizes, completing high-quality undergraduate research with faculty mentors, publishing articles and presenting at conferences. These are some highlights from the year.

Rony Dahdal ’26 awarded Goldwater Scholarship

Rony Dahdal was named a 2024 Goldwater Scholarship recipient, awarded by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation to advance research careers in science, math and engineering. Dahdal is also a Lumen Scholar, researching medical uses of LiDAR techonology, and a triple major in computer science, mathematics and philosophy.

Three seniors awarded NIH Undergraduate Scholarships

Chris D’Inzeo ’24, Samuel Ramirez ’24 and Genesis Tolbert ’24 received scholarships through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program. Along with up to $20,000 for tuition renewable up to four years, each spent the summer of 2024 in NIH laboratories and will spend 2024-25 as full-time employees conducting NIH research.

Students, alumni selected for Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Leah Schwarz ’24, Nellie Garrison ’24, Eliana Olivier ’24 and Trevor Molin ’23 were selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to teach English, conduct research or earn a graduate degree abroad. Three other undergraduates and an alumna were selected as alternates in the country’s largest exchange program. They were among the largest ever cohort of Fulbright applicants in Elon history: 34 applicants.

Jasper Serenity Myers ’24 wins religious studies research award

Jasper Serenity Myers ’24, a double major in religious studies and classical studies, won the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Paper award at the American Academy of Religion’s Southeast Regional Meeting. Co-mentored by Kristina Meinking, professor of classical studies, and Lynn Huber, professor of religious studies, her paper on Sappho’s poetry included original translations from Greek.

Bo Dalrymple ’25 wins service leadership award

Bo Dalrymple ’25 won the Community Impact Student Award from NC Campus Engagement for coordinating Elon Votes! and as Elon’s Andrew Goodman Foundation Ambassador. Bo is a double major in international and global studies and political science.

Tyra Duque ’25 selected for public policy and international affairs fellowship

Tyra Duque ’25 was selected as a Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute Fellow and spent the summer in programming at the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. Duque is a data analytics and public policy double major.

Six selected as Year of Service Fellows for Alamance County partnerships

Julia Burpeau ’24, Mollie Lund ’24, Nicole McGinty ’24, Nyjah Rollins ’24, Nolan Schreiner ’24 and Frieda Walsh Seaman ’24 were selected as 2024-25 Year of Service Fellows. They will spend the year after graduation working in community agencies to make Alamance County healthier and more prosperous.

Alayna Thompson ’24 wins biology research award

Alayna Thompson ’24, a biology major, won the N.C. Academy of Science’s John Bowley Derieux Research Award, first place in Ecology, Botany and Zoology, at the academy’s spring meeting.
