The name ‘philosophy’ means “love of wisdom.” Our mission statement gives philosophy:
- a timeless orientation, emphasizing dialogue with enduring human concerns;
- a collaborative commitment, manifest in our desire to enter inquiry together and to shape our collective world; and
- an immediate and practical focus, enriching our common life and deepening our care for the world in its unfolding.
This mission statement is a “polestar” which we use to guide our program. It constantly reminds us of what we are about. It guides our pedagogical discussions, our curricular initiatives, our innovations and our sense of direction. In sum, it guides us at every step.
In dialogue with the past
we enter inquiry together
into enduring human concerns
so as to enrich our common life and
deepen our care for the world in its unfolding.
