Project Management Major

Lead with Confidence through a Project Management Major
Project management is the foundation of success in every industry, from technology and construction to finance and healthcare. At Elon, the Project Management major gives you the tools to lead teams, manage complex projects, and deliver results that align with organizational goals. You’ll gain hands-on experience using professional tools and frameworks while developing leadership, communication, and decision-making skills that employers value across disciplines.
Through coursework aligned with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Talent Triangle, you’ll build a balance of technical knowledge, interpersonal effectiveness, and business acumen. Graduates are well-prepared to pursue certifications such as the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® and Professional Scrum Master, distinguishing themselves in a competitive global marketplace.
Real-World Experience Shaped Her Career Path
When Megan Sassaman ’22 arrived at Elon, she never imagined she’d find her calling in construction project management. Originally considering engineering, she discovered that the Project Management major blended her interest in business, teamwork, and tangible outcomes.
A class project led by Professor Matthew Valle—creating a plan for his “dream home” in Colorado—showed her how project management skills translate to real-world results. “In both majors, there was a lot of real-world application that I felt was beneficial,” she said. “With my project management courses, there were a lot of useful life skills you could take with you.”
After earning her Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® credential through Elon’s capstone course, Sassaman landed her first role with Clark Construction Group. Today, she manages large-scale projects in preconstruction services and credits her Elon experience for building her confidence and leadership. “The one thing that Elon was really helpful with was preparing me to be confident in the workplace,” she said. “My project management courses challenged me and helped me gain the confidence I need to be successful.”
