Part-time MHE pathway for Elon employees

The Master of Arts in Higher Education degree can be completed on a part-time basis by Elon Employees. The part-time MHE provides opportunities to explore and practice principles of student learning and development, examine the administrative functions and contemporary issues shaping higher education, and expand professional knowledge and competencies through the completion of two internships.

Eligibility

All Elon employees are eligible to apply for the part-time MHE degree pathway, pending the approval of their supervisor.

  • Online Application (including short answer responses)
  • Official transcripts of all institutions of higher education attended
  • Current resume
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Faculty Interview

The M.A. in Higher Education program enrolls a new cohort of part-time students every fall.

Course Scheduling and Time to Degree

Part-time students enrolled in two courses a term may complete the MHE degree in three years. Deviations from the standard part-time degree plan is permissible but will extend the degree completion timeline. Courses are currently offered in the late afternoon/evening which may require supervisor permission to use traditional working hours to attend classes. Weekly attendance in afternoon/evening courses is required.

Tuition and Financial Aid for Part-Time Students

For the 2024-2025 academic year, the per credit hour cost for MHE courses is $992. Tuition rates for the next academic year will be announced in spring 2025. Elon employees enrolled in the part-time MHE degree pathway may apply any tuition remission benefits for which they are eligible towards the cost of the degree.
