Summary of Position

The lifeguard oversees the daily operations of Beck Pool and ensures the safety of all swimmers.

Learning Practices

Through employment in Campus Recreation, the lifeguard will:

  • Develop transferrable skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, organization, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and decision-making.
  • Be able to articulate the value of recreation & wellness in the overall college student experience.
  • Maintain skills and techniques necessary to perform water rescues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enforce policies and maintain a safe environment for anyone in the pool or on the pool deck
  • Record necessary water measurements prior to each shift
  • Complete daily cleaning, including the pool, pool deck, and pool office
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all Campus Recreation programs and services
  • Foster strong partnerships with other members of the Aquatics team, as well as colleagues throughout Campus Recreation
  • Deliver quality customer service to all patrons, program participants, and visitors
  • Attend all Aquatics team meetings, monthly in-services and staff trainings
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Holds current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (re-certification classes are covered by the department through employment)
