Two-day conference at Elon College to focus on work force issues

ELON COLLEGE – Today, companies not only are struggling to attract competent employees but to motivate and retain that work force.

A conference at Elon College on Oct. 22-23 will address these work force challenges and offer strategies for dealing with them. The conference features a
keynote address by Rick Carlisle, secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 in Moseley Center on the college’s campus.
Other speakers include Charles Bell, president of TIMCO; Darleen Johns, president of AlphaNumeric Systems; Joan Myers, president of the North Carolina Electronic and Information Technologies Association; and Peter Pourtellot, president of Carolina Biological Supply Co.

The conference “Winning Strategies: Leading Your Work Force To Competitive Advantage” is sponsored by the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon College and North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry.

“With low employment, we have a relatively short supply of qualified individuals. It is more critical than ever to motivate, develop and retain key employees,” says John Burbridge, dean of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. “This program will focus on the development of strategies that will allow companies to do that.”

Fees to the conference, which is open to the public, range from $495 for one participant to $395 for several participants. For more information and to register contact Jane Gilliam at (336) 584-2566 or e-mail: gilliam@elon.edu
