Elon College’s East Campus named in honor of Danieley

ELON COLLEGE – The East Campus area of Elon College recently was renamed in a tribute to President Emeritus Earl Danieley.

Danieley, who served as president of the college from 1957 to 1973 and currently teaches in the chemistry department, said having East Campus named for his family is an honor. Once a new housing complex is completed next summer, the area off East Haggard Avenue will have 11 residence halls, providing about 600 beds, as well as a dining facility and commons area.

“Dr. Danieley embodies the values we promote at Elon College,” said John Barnhill, assistant to the dean of students. “The Danieley Center will offer a learning environment that encourages students to live up to his example – leader, servant and active member of the Elon community.”

“When our family visits the East Campus we are always reminded of the happy years when we lived there and, later, when I continued to have a garden just east of the dam. We are happy that this former homeplace will now be known as the Danieley Center,” Danieley said. “It has been a great privilege to work here for the past 52 years and an honor to have this exciting new area to be known by our family name.”
