ELON COLLEGE – Elon College’s social sciences division is launching a new annual series of symposiums on issues and problems confronting the community.
“We want to build bridges between Elon College and the larger community and to familiarize citizens with the work of our social scientists,” said Rudy Zarzar, professor of political science, who is coordinating the first symposium.
The first symposium consists of three panels discussions led Elon professsors. Each will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Yeager Recital Hall in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts on the college’s campus. They are open to the public.
The first panel on Feb. 17 will look at domestic violence. The panelists include Pam Kiser, human services, Seena Granowsky, psychology and women’s studies/gender studies, Duane McClearn, psychology, with Betty Morgan, political science, as moderator.
The second panel on March 17 will examine capital punishment. Panelists are Larry Vellani and Robert Craig, political science and public administration, Carole Chase, religious studies, Bernard Curry, sociology, with Anne Cassebaum, English, as moderator.
The third panel on April 14 will discuss domestic terrorism. Jim Bisset and Clyde Ellis, history, Zazar with Tom Hendricks, sociology, as moderator.
