Mack to deliver King commemorative address, Jan. 10

Sir Walter Mack, Jr., a 1989 Elon graduate who serves as pastor of Union Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C., will be the Martin Luther King, Jr. commemorative speaker at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon campus. Mack’s address, sponsored by Elon’s Office of Minority Affairs, is free and open to the public.

Mack earned a master of divinity degree from Duke University and a doctorate from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He was recognized by WUNC-FM as one of the 10 most effective preachers in North Carolina’s Research Triangle region in 1997.

Mack is former pastor of New Hope Granville Baptist Church in Oxford, N.C. He also served as executive director of United Christian campus ministry at North Carolina Central University in Durham before moving to Winston-Salem in 1999.
