Local singers interested in being part of a community choir for a spring performance of G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” are invited to a meeting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 27 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts at Elon College. Singers will rehearse selected numbers and enjoy a free lunch.
The meeting is the first in a series of rehearsals for the April 27 performance of “Messiah,” which is being supported in part by a grant from the Alamance Arts Council. The performance features the 100-member combined Elon student choirs along with the community choir, a 37-piece professional orchestra and four professional guest vocalists.
There is no cost to participate in the community choir, however, each singer must purchase a copy of the Barenreiter edition of the vocal score. Scores will also be available for purchase at the meeting.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to advance Elon’s role as a cultural leader in Alamance County,” says Stephen Futrell, Elon’s director of choral activities who is organizing the performance. “This meeting will give us an opportunity to socialize as a group and serve as a kickoff for the work ahead.”
The performance of “Messiah” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 27 in Elon’s McCrary Theatre.
