“Once Upon a Mattress” Opens Feb. 8

A medieval tomboy princess wins the heart of her prince in the musical “Once Upon a Mattress,” which opens at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8 in McCrary Theatre, located on the Elon campus in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts.

Linda Sabo, assistant professor of performing arts, directs and choreographs a cast of Elon students in the musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.” Mary Rogers, the daughter of musical theatre composer Richard Rogers, joined lyricists Marshall Barer and Jay Thompson to write the music for “Once Upon a Mattress.” Hallie Coppedge, adjunct instructor of dance, is the show’s musical director.

Characters include Winnifred Woebegone (played by Kelly Dynan), Prince Dauntless (Jonathon Walsh) and Queen Aggravain (Beth Briley).

Show times are 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8 through Saturday, Feb. 10, with a 2 p.m. matinee on both Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11. Tickets are $10 or free with Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
