The 2002 edition of the Kaplan Newsweek College Catalog names Elon University one of 27 “hidden treasure” colleges and universities in the nation. The ranking, which is based on a random survey of hundreds of high school guidance counselors from across the nation, lists “terrific schools that deserve more national recognition.”
According to guidance counselors quoted in the catalog, Elon students “know their professors and have the opportunities of a big school without all the students.” The catalog also notes that Elon “is great for internships that really relate to your major.”
Other Southeastern schools on the “hidden treasure” list include Flagler College in Florida, Furman University in South Carolina and Millsaps College in Mississippi.
