“Deadly Persuasions: Advertising and Addiction”

Jean Kilbourne, a visiting scholar from Wellesley College, will discuss the powerful and sometimes addicting images in alcohol and tobacco advertising during a lecture at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23 in Whitley Auditorium. Sponsored by the Liberal Arts Forum, Kilbourne’s lecture is free and open to the public. Her lecture will emphasize and illustrate some of the messages behind current popular alcohol and tobacco advertisements.

Kilbourne is a widely published author and lecturer on alcohol and tobacco advertising, and the images that make those ads popular. Named Lecturer of the Year by the National Association of Campus Activities, she served on the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. She has also served as an adviser to two U.S. surgeons general.
