Elon television shows win awards

Two shows produced by Elon Television have been honored by the 2001 Communicator Awards program. “Touchdown Phoenix Football,” a 30-minute show aired regionally each week on Comcast sports network, earned the Award of Distinction in the educational institution/student produced category. Produced by Steve Jeffries, “Touchdown Phoenix Football” features game highlights, profiles of student-athletes and analysis of Elon football with host Trip Durham and head football coach Al Seagraves. This is the second year the show has won the Award of Distinction.

“University,” a talk show which examines current news issues and their impact on college students, received an Honorable Mention award in the educational institution/student produced category. Produced by Leigh Wheeler and hosted by J. McMerty, “University” was distributed to 25 colleges and universities for broadcast on their campus television systems.

The Communicator Awards is a national program judged by industry professionals who look for talent which exceeds a high standard of excellence. Elon’s entries were among 3,401 from 47 states, the District of Columbia and 11 countries. Only 12 percent of the entries won the Award of Distinction.
