Top jazz band students will conclude a two-day festival on the Elon University campus with a concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature a combined performance by the Elon Jazz Ensemble and an all-festival ensemble of the top middle school and high school musicians at the festival.
Approximately 300 students, representing 10 high schools and two middle schools in North Carolina, will receive instruction and feedback from guest clinicians Steve Abshire and John Jensen on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Abshire was a guitarist with the Navy Commodores, while Jensen played lead trombone.
The festival is organized by Jon Metzger, assistant professor of music.
