Gooch speaks at American Chemical Society meeting

Dr. Eugene Gooch, associate professor of chemistry, was an invited speaker at the 225th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, held March 23-27, in New Orleans, La.  His paper, “A Tale of Two Courses:  Medicinal Chemistry at Two Piedmont Colleges,” described a course he developed and taught at Elon during Fall 2002, as well as a similar course taught at Guilford College by co-author Dr. Anne Glenn.

The presentation was part of a symposium on Teaching Medicinal Chemistry to Undergraduate Chemistry Majors, sponsored by the ACS Division of Computers in Chemistry.  Other speakers at the symposium included Earland Stevens of Davidson College, Moses Lee of Furman University, T. P. Lybrand of Vanderbilt University, J. Phillip Bowen of the University of Georgia, Professor Richard B. Silverman of Northwestern University and several speakers from the chemical industry.
