“An Afternoon of Comic Opera,” April 13

Students from the Elon University music and performing arts department will present scenes from three comic operas during “An Afternoon of Comic Opera” at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 13 in Whitley Auditorium on campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

Several ensembles from Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” will display the cleverly conceived score and ingenious musical figures characteristic of 18th century satire. Another Mozart favorite, “The Magic Flute,” will be represented with a performance of the First Act Quintet and the opening aria of the Queen of the Night.

The production will conclude with an edited version of “Patience” by Gilbert and Sullivan, which pokes fun at the literary and artistic movement of Victorian England.

More than 20 students have roles in the performance, which is expected to last 1 hour and 45 minutes.
