Elon’s Phi Kappa Phi recognized outstanding student achievement in a variety of academic fields during its initiation ceremony Monday, April 14 in McKinnon Hall.
More than 70 students were initiated into the honor society, which honors men and women in all academic fields. Founded at the University of Maine in 1897, its purpose is to recognize and encourage superior scholarship. Election is based primarily on scholarship and solid character. Seniors and graduate students must rank in the top 10 percent of their class for consideration; juniors in the top 5 percent of their class may be considered.
Nathan Painter, a senior from Elon, N.C., received an $8,000 Phi Kappa Phi National Graduate Fellowship award. Fifty-two fellowships are awarded nationally each year on a competitive basis.
