Faculty member to chair national pre-law council

Nim Batchelor, associate professor of philosophy, has been elected chair of the Pre-Law Advisors National Council. The group serves as the indirect national governing body for more than 3,200 advisors who work with students in pre-law programs at colleges and universities across the country. Batchelor will serve as chair of the national council from July 2003-June 2005.

Batchelor was chosen for the post after serving as president of the Southern Association of Pre-Law Advisors, one of six regional associations nationwide, in 1998-99. He also served as registrar of the council’s 2000 national conference in San Diego.

The Pre-Law Advisors National Council facilitates the work of regional pre-law advisor associations and is an advocate for the interests of pre-law students. Pre-law advisors also work with law school recruiters to identify and assist potential candidates. The council works with a number of partners, including the American Bar Association, to address the latest needs and current trends in the field of legal education.

Batchelor became pre-law advisor at Elon in 1993. He started a pre-law online discussion group in 1995 and has also coordinated the council’s Web site, www.planc.org.
