Elon theater students to celebrate Bloomsday during April 14 event

Join Elon theater students in the Black Box Theatre at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 14 for a celebration of the Bloomsday Centennial.

Readers of James Joyce’s Ulysses know June 16, 1904, as “Bloomsday,” the day on which Leopold Bloom—the everyman hero of the novel—takes his epic journey through Dublin, Ireland. 2004 will mark the centennial of Bloomsday, an event that will be celebrated in style on June 16 throughout the world.

Elon’s celebration of the event will include a reading of selected passages of “Ulysses” by Elon theater students. Professor Richard Gang of the Elon Performing Arts Department will serve as director and Scott Buechler, associate dean of the Love School of Business, will give an introduction and provide continuity throughout the performance.

Light refreshments with an Irish flavor will be provided, and the performance is free and open to the public.
