Snowberger earns 3rd in class at riding competition

Johanna Snowberger, a freshman from Summerfield, N.C., finished in third place nationally in the Open Division flat class at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) national finals. The event was held May 7-9 at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. She is the first Elon equestrian member to qualify for the IHSA national finals.

Snowberger and 17 other top riders from across the nation competed in the Open Division flat class. The riders were put through a series of riding tests to evaluate their control of the horse. Snowberger’s third-place finish was better than several recognized top national riders.

Snowberger also represented Elon by leading the Zone 4 qualifiers during the opening parade of teams at the event. In addition, Elon equestrian team captain Brandy Crumley attended the competition to lend moral support to Snowberger.

Elon’s club equestrian team competes in the same region as other area universities, including Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and North Carolina State. Schools represented at the IHSA finals included the University of Connecticut, University of Virginia, Ohio State University and the University of Michigan.
