Hungarian scholars visit Elon Center for Public Affairs

Two visiting scholars from Hungary are on campus through Aug. 28 as the first Summer Research Fellows in the Elon Center for Public Affairs.

Dr. Agnes Horvath, director of the School of Politics at Esterhazy Karoly University in Eger, Hungary, and Dr. Mariana Dobo, a member of the graduate faculty at Esterhazy Karoly, will conduct research on local government management issues and personnel practices as part of collaborative research with Betty Morgan, associate professor of political science and public administration at Elon. The Hungarian scholars will participate in a number of community events, seminars and conferences during their stay at Elon.

Horvath, along with faculty and students at Esterhazy Karoly, annually hosts Elon students who study abroad in the European Union Winter Term course directed by Morgan. Elon students are partnered with Hungarian students during the class, tour the city and get a briefing from local officials in Eger about EU-related changes in governmental, economic and social issues.

A reception for Horvath and Dobo is planned for 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 25 in the Ella Darden and Elmon Lee Gray Pavilion, the new home of the political science department. The reception is sponsored by the ICCIS and the Center for Public Affairs. The campus community is invited to attend.
