Weston Co-Teaches Course, Presents Paper in Australia

Anthony Weston, professor of philosophy, recently returned from Australia, where he co-taught a course titled “Eco-Philosophy in Practice” at the Institute for Sustainability and Technology Policy at Murdoch University in Perth. Weston was in Australia from March-July.

The course, which included undergraduate and graduate students, involved two 10-day backpacking trips into the Australian bush. Weston’s travels during the course took him to southwest Australia, the rainforests of Kakadu, and the southeast coast. He met up with Kristin Pedersen ’02, who is now in graduate school at the University of Tasmania in Hobart, and Brendan Lamar ’02, and enjoyed exploring the Australian outdoors with both. He also spent two months in the heart of the country and gave many public lectures.

In addition to teaching, Weston presented a paper as part of a philosophy panel at the Students for Sustainability Conference in Melbourne. He also led off a symposium based on his work in environmental philosophy at the Australian National University in Canberra.
