Students to compile survey for local police department

Students in Public Administration senior seminar, taught by Betty Morgan, associate professor of political science, will conduct a citizen satisfaction survey for the Burlington Police Department Friday-Saturday, Nov. 12-13.

About 15 students will attempt to gather 1,000 surveys from citizens about their interaction with the department. Participation in the survey is voluntary; students will work in various locations throughout the city such as shopping malls, community centers and other high traffic areas to gather the surveys.

The class will compile and analyze the data, making a final presentation to Burlington mayor Steve Ross, police chief Mike Gauldin and other city administrators in December.

The survey is used to improve relations between citizens and police officers and is required every 4 years as part of a national accreditation process for the police department.
