Mason named TIAA/CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Elon football player Brandon Mason has been named the TIAA-CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week for November 17.

Mason, a 6-3, 260 pound senior center from Martinsville, Va., anchored an offensive line that allowed tailback John Taylor to pick up 133 yards in Elon’s 24-7 victory over The Citadel on Saturday, November 13. The win was also Elon’s first-ever win against the Bulldogs in school history. Mason was in on all 69 plays for the Phoenix, allowing no sacks while recording nine knockdown blocks as the Phoenix picked up 343 yards of total offense. Mason was also named Co-National Offensive Linemen of the Week honors for the second time this season according to Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette.

In the classroom Mason graduated magna cum laude from Elon in May 2004 with a grade point average of 3.81. A two time CoSIDA Academic All-District III team member, Mason was declared one of the National Football Foudation and College Hall of Fame National Scholar-Athletes and recieved an $18,000 fellowship. He is currently working on an MBA at Elon.
