The nine new schools pledged a commitment to making education for responsible citizenship a cornerstone of their educational mission, developing centralilzed programs to provide students with a foundation for social and civic engagement.
Elon University was among the founding institutions of Project Pericles, which was conceived by New York philanthropist Eugene Lang. The nine new schools include the following:
- Berea College, Berea, Ky.
- Chatham College, Pittsburgh, Penn.
- Dillard University, New Orleans, La.
- New School University, New York
- Occidental College, Los Angeles
- Rhodes College, Memphis, Tenn.
- St. Mary’s College of Maryland, St. Mary’s City, Md.
- Wagner College, Staten Island, N.Y.
- Widener University, Chester, Penn.
