Blaese is a recognized leader in the field of immunodeficiency and gene therapy. He was part of the team that used gene therapy in 1990 to combat severe combined immune deficiency in a young girl. Gene therapy continues to be one of the most exciting and controversial applications of molecular biology. Blaese is currently the President of PreGentis, Inc. and also an Adjunct Investigator at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland.
